No-dig garden project
Our garden project started in February 2022 inspired by Charles Dowding the No-dig guru and the large pile of well rotten manure on site. We started by laying cardboard over the grass and weeds and piling the manure on top. We build a fence surrounding the plot to keep the New Forest wildlife out. The local tree surgeon gifted us a huge pile of wood chip which we use in the pathways between the beds. In the spring we start our seedlings and enjoy an abundant harvest of fresh vegetables and berries in the summer and autumn. We grow a few herbs and like to pick them to make a delicious blend of fireside tea. We were awarded funding that has helped expand our project. We build a poly tunnel, planted fruit trees, started our water capture system and expanded our fence. All of which was only possible by our community gathering to help build our infrastructure and all the children rolling their sleeves up to get the jobs done.
